After surveying the gallery scene in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area, Norman Parish originally opened Parish Gallery of Georgetown in 1991 as a showcase for contemporary visual arts by African Americans and little known local artists. He noted that even though a majority of Washington\'\s citizens are of African descent, there were very few fine art galleries showing African influenced art or the works of people of color. |
